Define a longboard

Mexifly posted,

I have heard the argument for 10 years now, a longboard is not a skateboard. Some have approached governments trying to change skateboard laws to make an exception for longboards.

My question to you is how would you define a longboard for legal purposes? Does your definition leave room for mini's and slalom decks?

To me a "longboard", or anything with 4 or more wheels connected to a wooden/composite deck by a set of trucks is a skateboard.

"Longboarding" is a lifestyle.

All longboards are skateboards; but not all skateboards are longboards. I'm going to use the term "skateboard" to refer to the double kicktail deck with forward-kingpin trucks and hard wheels. Work with me.

Longboards are primarily designed for rolling. Skateboards are designed for getting air.

It's an oversimplification; but that's basically the difference.
