I hit enter too soon hahaha. So its +15-15 and mischos is 25*, so it makes the front 40 and the back 10. Easy peasy.

His front/rear steering has been 40/10 which was the result of two 25 degree plates on an Evo which adds 15 to the front and takes away 15 in the rear. He also uses a 20 in the front and a 30 in the rear to get an effective 35/15 setup on the same board. Using the same setup on a flat deck would result in the rear steering more than the front.

Fyre Trucks

Two 30 degree plates and a 20 on the right.

The first 100 hangers we've done are 6.25", 6.75", and 7.25" in width (159mm, 171mm, and 184mm) and the first 100 baseplates have 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 degrees of steering.

Those things look so rad. So canyou explain how those trucks work? I noticed that it doesn't have a pivot cup. It looks like the bushings and the other 2 kingpins are the only things holding the hanger up. And how much will they cost?

The whole hangar is supported by the sphericals on the "queen pins". This stops any sort of pre-compression of the bushings.

I'll write more later about the Fyre Trucks, but briefly here's the scoop:

Many "precision" trucks have two spherical bearings - one in the baseplate's pivot cup and one in the hanger between the bushing seats. A Fyre Truck has one toward the pivot cup and one on the other side of the axle. I changed the orientation of the spherical bearing in the pivot cup area so that it is parallel (instead of perpendicular) to the other. There is no spherical bearing between the bushings which allows for better bushing seats on the hanger and nice TALL bushings. The two spherical bearings are further apart than other trucks which provides more precise steering and less twisting or slop. The kingpin is free to slide up out of the baseplate when tightening the truck. It has a ledge in the middle that supports the bottom cup washer. The two 1/2" locknuts on the pivot pins hold the entire assembly in place. With the locknuts removed, the hanger and kingpin and bushings all come off as one unit and the bushing tension is preserved.

Most all trucks are like a lever in that the hanger hinges in the pivot cup and puts a load on the bottom bushing. The bottom bushing therefore has to do double-duty. It has to take the load (weight) of the rider and it also has to serve as a fulcrum (pivot point) on which the hanger teeter-totters back and forth. You are literally forced to use a relatively hard and/or barrel shaped bushing on the bottom so that it doesn’t get squashed. It is both a part of the steering (pivot) system AND a part of the resistance (compression) system. What makes a Fyre Truck unique is that it isolates the two systems. The steering system is independent of the compression system. The pivot pins and pivot bearings take the load of the rider. None of the load is on the bottom bushing. Because our bushings aren’t load bearing, you are free to use top and bottom bushings that are as hard or as soft as you like. You can use different shapes and sizes, use various types of cup washers, and totally dial in your ride. Taller bushings allow for a greater range of motion meaning that these trucks continue to steer when most others would stop turning and lift your outside wheels during a turn. Other trucks get squirrelly or get the wobs when you hit a rough patch of pavement because they load, unload, and reload the weight of the rider on the bottom bushing. The Fyre Trucks act more like a suspension system. When you hit a rough patch, they barely even sketch and go right back on track. It’s a pretty amazing feeling - one that breeds confidence at speed.

Other interesting factoids:

You can take the locknut entirely off of the kingpin and also remove the top bushing and still ride the truck around. It will use only the bottom bushing with no preload on it.

Hanger swaps are quick and easy and preserve the bushings settings.

If you use different bushings top and bottom it will feel like an “average” of the two durometers.

They can do 70.23 mph and not kill the rider.

100 of them are going on sale next week.

Sound like the trucks for me. From what I've read i hink it's safe to say that they're good for beginners and pro riders. I live how you think CC. How mch will they cost? Are they only on sale at abec 11 site or are you sending others out to distributors?

From what I read on the IGSA site, Mischo did bend a hanger in a crash this summer. I don't think that's "sketchy" at all. Mischo and Chris have been testing them for awhile...I think I saw pics of these around a year ago. I've talked to both of them about the trucks, and they seem really stoked on them. Cruised around on Mischo's deck too and they felt really nice. Hopefully they aren't "Magun expensive", but it's up to Chris. If they aren't the truck for you, don't buy them.

One question Chris...will the hanger work on most drop through set up's? It looks slightly wider...so I thought there may be a slight chance of hanger bite?

The Peanut Gallery - Another anonymous tool and clueless hater. Grow a sack and put your name out there unless you're completely embarrassed about the crap that spews from your lips. Seriously, pull your head out. People are on here asking questions about a truck that they know very little about and when the guy who actually designed and rides the truck gives them the answers they're looking for, you pretend like he's never opened his wallet and supported the site, the skaters, or downhill skateboarding. How many tens of thousands of dollars have YOU thrown at Danger Bay, Vernon, Maryhill, Team Green, etc, etc, et fuckin' cetera.

Mischo HAS bent his Fyre Trucks. I guess you failed to mention the fact that he clipped his wheel on a hay bale at about 45 - 50mph and that NO axle is designed to withstand that force. It's like a race car hitting the wall - the wall wins every time. Duh.

You have no idea how much these trucks cost me to make or how much I'm going to charge, do you assfuck? The answers are NO and NO. But you do have a keyboard and mommy's internet access so away you go, soiling your diaper and putting the stink of you out on the web. Who gives a rat's ass what these cost? You're not getting any because you wouldn't even know what to do with something this nice. It's easier to sit back, do nothing, and try to bring down anyone who is out there actively contributing to the sport and elevating others.

So here’s how this is going to play out. I am going to continue to design, test, refine, and distribute the best skateboard products on the planet. When I have something available I am going shout it out from the highest mountaintop and there’s not a god damned-thing that you are going to do about it. Unless of course you think that pissing into the wind is really cool. Go for it peanut. Let’s see how far that gets you.

English, There are different reasons that make hanger swaps, fast or otherwise, a good idea. It used to be the case that with floating axles, or if you didn't use Biltin Bearings, it was a pain in the ass to change your wheels out quickly. One solution was to have more hangers on hand that had new wheels and bearings on them and just remove the locknut and top bushing from the kingput and swap 'em out. Yes, that does require someone to pony up for extra hangers and wheels.

But what I'm referring to is the fact that you can set up different decks with different baseplates and easily swap out your one-and-only set of hangers and wheels. The extra baseplates aren't all that much money by comparison.

Imagine that I have 1 short speedboard and 2 long speedboards, all of which have flat (horizontal) mounting surfaces. I could have the following 3 choices with only two hangers:

Front / Rear / Wheelbase

40 degree / 10 degree / 33" WB

40 degree / 10 degree / 36" WB 50 degree / 20 degree / 36" WB

Each of these would ride differently. The idea is to have a lot of options and to SAVE money, not to buy a lot of hangers ...

Yeah, I took Mischo's for a carve a while ago. They felt really weird, but really cool. His skateboard felt like some super turney formula one car. It was a little much for me because I just switched to Monkey truck after riding casted trucks for 10 years. For a pro like Mischo, It's obvious that it works for him. As far a trucks bending...new designs need to be put through the wringer, roughed up and ridden as hard as possible to get everything dialed. Every single truck company that has ever lasted came to the table with something that continuously got changed and improved on. I like to give Chris a hard time myself, but I think what he has done to downhill is pretty cool. Shit, I like to point and laugh at him sometimes but if all seems to make sense to him in his own mind, even better. Who else should really give a shit about what he does other than himself?

I won't bore you with all of the details of what it costs to put these babies together but it has to be more expensive than just about anything currently out on the market. I'm sure that people with no clue will bitch and moan about the price of anything that is expensive to produce, but I think that all things considered, $200.00 USD per truck is a screaming deal.

So that's what I'll commit to for now. $200 a truck. If we learn how to source free titanium for axles, free machine time from the CNC gurus, free spherical bearings, etc, the price could drop. Or I'll come to my senses and realize that we are selling Ferraris for the price of a Chevy and try to make some of my money back. I've spent tens of thousand of dollars on machined trucks and to date I've sold one set for about my cost. I welcome any conspiracy theorists out there who think that I'm making any money off of this to preform a thorough reality check before whining about the price.

We'll be offering 6.25" (159mm), 6.75" (171mm), and 7.25" (184mm) hanger widths, and 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 degree baseplates. You can choose from a wide variety of tall Reflex bushings and stainless steel cup washers.

These truck preform like no other. They aren't just different for the sake of being different. They are superior to anything else that I have ever tried. They have already won the North American Championship at Vernon, two World Cup races including the fastest on the planet, and will be taking a stab at the World Championship in Oz soon. But don't take my word for it. Wait until more and more people have chimed in after trying them. I KNOW that people will dig them because I've been skating for over 35 years and nothing has preformed as well for me.

BUT, you have anounced things and not delivered in the past:pre-coned wheels, the 130mm flys etc. Anyways if these trucks are as good as they look and as big as the hype surrounding them then i'm sure they'll be well worth the wait once i get my hands on a set. Cheers,

Subject: RE: mischo Date: 01-11-2009
Author: Chris Chaput Reply
Hey Juan,

I think that the short answer is "great". Anyime that you have a truck that is stable, leans with a great range of motion, and steers with great precision you have a winner. There's really no downside to having increased traction and control from a truck. You can always use wheels that slide more (Classic Formula BigZigs or FreeRides over the Reflex Formula versions) but if your truck is sloppy and you want more traction, it won't be there when you really need it. Bilting Bearings also really help to reduce chatter and vibration in a slide and they add strength to the axles and system as a whole.

Isn't this design really just a channel truck indentical in function to any mountainboard truck?

The only real innovation I see here is finally someone has taken skateboard truck design out of the 1960's and brought into the modern era.

The Fyre design is really no different than this:

this -

or this -

Although I admire Chris for his constant attempts to bring innovation to a very rigid discipline, as far as truck design goes, the only thing new about his design is that it is new to skateboarding.

Michael Poindexter.

Detail in what images?

I know how all of those trucks work. The MBS Twin Pin truck is a little blurry but I know it was designed to function in the exact way as the Fyre truck.

The Fyre truck uses the two horizontal bearing points in the same way as a channel truck uses a horizontal king pin.

The Fyre truck would still work if you took out the vertical king pin and bushings. It would not work if you took out the two horizontal bearing points.

Again, I compliment Chaput on his innovation. Although it is not a new idea, it is new to skateboarding. Anything new to skateboarding is an advancement. As an industry, skateboarding is not very innovative.

Chaput needs to see why that is.

Who would have thought that the all of the stresses of an axle bearing on the axis point of the truck at the spot where there is the least material would bend?

There is a reason for the channel on channel trucks.

I've seen a few precision truck axles bend, and lots of cast truck ones. I'm not suggesting any conclusions, but It's not like it never happens.

As far as the truck thing goes...I don't know. I ride Munkaes. I don't know what the phrase "being 'light' on your board" means. I think Flap-it has a good idea going and some bugs need to be worked out. I know a few very cool things about Jim Z and a couple of them are he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met and he'll give ya a beer if yer thirsty. But don't tell him I told you.

I guess I'm in an asshole mood. Usually. Chris, you know I dig what you've done. You've opened doors for so many people to go faster than they thought they could on a skateboard. A lot of these people are the same ones who come to this site to talk shit but will be the same ones who have Abec-11's at the start line. Nuff said.

But, as someone who has raced with you for nearly 10 years, I gotta call you out. Hardly anyone else has the balls to post a name or real questions. I've been following everything you've been doing since we've both been doing this for so long. I'm curious.

Where are the products you've promised?

The Fyre trucks are bending, why?

And I pissed in your gas tank, so did you notice that your car was running funny?

Danny, again proving to be the hero for all skaters.

I saw this problem from far off. The axle housing needs to be beefier and supported more. I mean, I dont know whose fyres those are, but I do know that they only had a couple runs on them before they were bent.

Id love to try these more than I already have, and love to see them being used, but not before the axle situation has been fixed.

THE POOPIE LIST Bathroom Humor at its finest:

Ghost Poopie The kind where you feel the poopie come out, but there is no poopie in the toilet. Clean Poopie The kind where you poopie it out, see it in the toilet, but there is nothing on the toilet paper. Wet Poopie The kind where you wipe your butt 50 times and it still feels unwiped, so you have to put some toilet paper between your butt and underwear so you won't ruin them with a stain. Second Wave Poopie This happens when you're done Poopie-ing and you've pulled up your pants to your knees, and you realize that you have to Poopie some more. Pop-A-Vein-In-Your-Forehead-Poopie The kind where you strain so much to get it out, you practically have a stroke. Gassy Poopie It's so noisy, everyone within earshot is laughing. Drinker Poopie The kind of Poopie you have the morning after a long night of drinking. Its most noticeable trait is the skid marks on the bottom of the toilet. Lincoln Log Poopie The kind of Poopie that is so huge you're afraid to flush without first breaking it into little pieces with the toilet brush. Corn Poopie Self-explanatory. Gee-I-Wish-I-Could-Poopie Poopie The kind where you want to Poopie but all you do is sit on the toilet and fart a few times. Spinal Tap Poopie That's where it hurts so badly coming out, you would swear it was leaving you sideways. Wet Cheeks Poopie (The Power Dump) The kind that comes out of your butt so fast, your butt gets splashed with water. Liquid Poopie The kind where yellowish-brown liquid shoots out your butt and splashes all over the toilet bowl. Mexican Poopie It smells so bad your nose burns. The Surprise Poopie You're not even at the toilet because you are sure you're about to fart, but oops.......a Poopie!!! The Dangling Poopie This Poopie refuses to drop into the toilet even though you know you are done Poopie-ing it. You just pray that a shake or two will cut it loose. which one wes

the aluminum housing isnt what makes the axle strong... good steel is what makes it strong. The design is rad, although not original in the slightest.

The truck seems to incoperate every style of machining possible haha cast, cncd and welded? 100 bucks for each process and a 100 for chappy!!!

"You are literally forced to use a relatively hard and/or barrel shaped bushing on the bottom so that it doesn’t get squashed. You can use different shapes and sizes, use various types of cup washers, and totally dial in your ride. Taller bushings allow for a greater range of motion meaning that these trucks continue to steer when most others would stop turning and lift your outside wheels during a turn. Other trucks get squirrelly or get the wobs when you hit a rough patch of pavement because they load, unload, and reload the weight of the rider on the bottom bushing."

Mr Chaput, excellent truck design But i have to disagree on the above points. I have never been forced to use a harder barrel on the bottom of my trucks. I always have and always will use soft bushings in all my boards, including my race boards, I have never encountered this thing you are talking about.I can totally dial the ride of any truck in the way you illustrate. And lastly, so what if the trucks get squirly on rough road, squirly is fun, skateboarding is meant to be fun. A non squirly skate is boring in my opnion.

Anyway. blah blah blah

internet forums are no place for owners of companies to post. I would like to thank chris and for all his hard work and dedication to our sport. He receives continual negativity and put downs to the creations that he has made available to public and private riders.. yet not many of these people have met chris or talked with him face to face. I have been in verbal arguments over tech with him... which i found to be educational. Voice your concerns in private and you might get a remedy... this principle applies to all transactions in civil life. Has anyone seen an SGS truck axle bend? see Danger bay 3 DVD limited release 2004 video

wow, so much negativity.

I think Chris has a good idea with trying something different with the triple kingpin. If the trucks don't work out, shit happens. Get over it, make improvements, and produce the next generation with the rider's feedback.

I'm way past the point of relying on a company to produce a truck that I like. If you want something specific, make it yourself, or get a friend with the skills to help you out.

Thankfully here in Ontario we have two amazing riders that will hook us up with boards, trucks and other parts.

I'm wondering... titanium is lighter, but would it be stronger/less chance of fatigue than steel in a truck application?

Why the fuck you guys bitching about Chris advertising on here When he didn't even start this thread?? Someone saw these trucks and was asking questions about them..isn't that one of the great parts of Coastlongboarding?..you need answers and people help you out!..He was just answering questions about His trucks..leave the guy alone! especially since most of us ride his wheels almost exclusively?! Hell, i've been riding for years and I ONLY ride on ABEC 11 (on my longboard AND my luge) cuz I haven't found wheels that come even close to their performance! and yes his trucks are expensive, but would you ask landy to drop the price of their carbon evo so they'd sell a few more?? NO!! they'd laugh at you..lol! And oh yeah, someone ended up bending one..woopy shit! I have four sets of 10mm axles for my Jim Z's..I BENT THEM ALL!! (and when I was riding Randal 180s i broke the fucking thing in half..now its a nice ornament) LOL..If you ride hard, shit'll break! Thats what racing is all about! so PLEASE..quit your bitching, I'm tired of hearing it!

How many people ride his wheels? And look at how many people are already using Centrax. Landyachtz even jumped onto the fixed pivot idea (with an unoriginal design) after the Fyre trucks came out. Then there's Biltin bearings that come with speed rings and spacer installed. No need to waste money on special precision spacers.
